August 2020 Dear Governors, Directors, and Trustees, Earlier this month, the RI Board met to discuss Rotary’s current Declaration on Diversity, Justice, and Inclusion, and an ongoing one Create an action plan that translates the intent of our declaration into meaningful action. To create measurable, lasting change across Rotary, our first step is to create a seven-member, regionally and culturally diverse task force to help us develop our action plan. We ask for your assistance in identifying Rotary members and friends who have professional or educational experience with diversity, justice, and inclusion. Membership in a Rotary or Rotaract club is not a requirement. The task force will meet virtually from August 2020 to June 2021 and report regularly to the RI board. The task force will begin by looking at ways we can work together to help Rotary at all levels fight prejudice and inequality. The task force will be a resource for our central office, as well as our clubs, districts, committees, and programs to respond to people who have felt unwelcome or valued. When the task force sees a need, it will identify potential experts or companies with international DEI experience in the context of their respective regional cultures and histories, review proposals, and make recommendations to the RI Board Executive Committee. We ask for your assistance in identifying qualified candidates who should be considered for membership in this task force. Please nominate up to three candidates who meet the following requirements: Work experience in the field of equality / DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Familiarity with Rotary as an organization Availability to participate in virtual task force meetings Please submit nominations with this Online form to 15. August 2020 . I ask for your understanding that we cannot guarantee that your nominees will be selected. For this reason, please treat all nominations confidentially so that we avoid possible disappointment. If you have any questions or need assistance with submitting your nominations, please contact committeeappointments@rotary.org . Thank you in advance for your support. Sincerely Holger Knaack President, Rotary International 2020/21 |

What does diversity mean in an organization?
Workplace diversity is understanding, accepting, and valuing differences between people including those:
- of different races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, disabilities, social statuts and sexual orientations
- with differences in education, personalities, skill sets, experiences, and knowledge bases
Gen Xers and Boomers, on the other hand, view diversity in the workplace as an equal and fair representation regardless of demography, without necessarily considering the relationship of diversity to business results. Diversity and exclusion are more than buzzwords and must be taken seriously and understood in the workplace. What is inclusion?
Inclusion is a collaborative, supportive, and respectful environment that increases the participation and contribution of all employees.
What is diversity and inclusion?
Diversity and inclusion is a organization’s mission, strategies, and practices to support a diverse surrounding and leverage the effects of diversity to achieve a competitive advantage.
Rotary is a global network that aims to build a world where people come together and take action to bring about lasting change. Rotary values diversity and the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, race, skin color, skills, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity.
People from all regions of the world are looking for ways to make a difference and connect with other socially active people. Rotary creates unique opportunities for more people and organizations to get involved.
It is time for Rotary to create a new future for the organization – a future that is more open and inclusive, that is fair to everyone, creates goodwill, and is beneficial to our community. We want to hear from people who bring different perspectives and ideas, who help Rotary and its members take action to create sustainable change.
The expansion and diversification of our membership is our top priority. We want to make sure that we reflect the communities we serve in our membership.
